Horror Movie Series

Personal Project | Fall 2024 | Bloomington, IN

The horror movie poster series was entirely inspired by my personal love and appreciation for the horror genre. This series started with the Hereditary poster as a class project and then grew into a mini-series that allowed me to explore some of my favorite visual motifs in horror movies that have impacted my creative perspective.

Hereditary

The Hereditary inspired poster was the first in the series assigned as a project in a BFA studio class. The assignment was to make a poster using letterpress techniques and create a design centering an animal. As a forever psychological horror obsessed fan, I knew I wanted to create something for one of my favorite movies of the genre, Hereditary by Ari Aster. The animal significant to the movies plot-line was a pigeon which I chose to center my design around. Another visual aesthetic of the movie I knew I wanted to include was the stained glass that was apparent around the main house in the movie. In producing this three layer wood cut print, I felt something was missing to the stained glass affect. Intrigued by the untouched cellophane in the BFA studios shared material shelf, I had the idea to make cutouts throughout the poster using a laster cutter and accenting the red details in the design with red cellophane.

Midsommar

Midsommar was the movie in this poster series. This design is centered around the bear which is a significant symbol in the movie. The poster is a four layer print on charcoal French Paper finished with gold pearlescent powder encapsulating the bear.

The Witch

The Witch was the final poster in this series. This poster utilized the black goat that was centered throughout the movie. The poster is a three color wood cut print finished with a white pearlescent powder highlighting the eyes in the goat and the center girl figure.
